Door locking

Is there a difference for setting the locking procedure for the 98 GP and the 97 Grand Am. My friend bought a used grand am and as soon as the doors are closed, they lock. Is there a way to program the mall program so that the doors lock only after the transmission is moved from park, and unlock all doors when the engine is switched off?
