Where do I get info on engine rebuild/replace options?

I've got a '92 xFi with 175K on the odometer. The 997cc screamer.

I'm thinking about replacing the engine. RockAuto has a remanufactured, warrantied Long Block for about 1,500 -- everything's rebuilt, just bolt on the starter, alternator, and all that.

I know I've seen camshaft kits and other goodies, somewhere, if I wanted to go the custom rebuild route, to go for a little more volumetric efficiency.

When I type JDM engine into google, I do come up with options, there -- I just haven't found any Suzuki 3 cylinders for sale.

I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. I'm going to be getting some money to spend on this in about a month...

Dr. Bill did a wonderful post on rebuilding the little three banger. I don't know your mechanical level, but it is easy to do yourself. On the Rock Auto Engine can you be assured that you are getting a true XFI engine? (Two Piston Ring Grooves, instead of three). Different cam in head for economy. I just rebuilt my 92 XFI myself and it was fun. New rings, rod and main-bearings,oil pump seals the whole she bangy. With a new clutch kit, flywheel and a new head for 850.00. You can take your head to a machine shop get it reworked with stainless steel exhaust valves, price depends on how much is needed to rebuild the head you should be able to get her done for 250.00 or less. Myself I purchased a head from a machine shop delivered to my house ready to go for 180.00, but I had to use my cam out of my XFI head because all he had where base model heads. Still one heck of a deal. If you can do it yourself, go for it.That way you know for sure what you have. I will point out that Dr. Bill did his motor while it was still in the car, if you can and have access to a garage with an engine stand its far easier to pull the motor, put her on a stand, get comfy have plenty of sandwich bags to label and keep parts seperated, clean the parts as you go and enjoy your project.

Watch ebay, I bought a ac delco reman long block for about $800 shipped. Couldn't be happier. I have also done a JDM, but comparing the two, I prefer the going for the reman over the JDM.

MI Suzukis didn't have a three cylinder. It was a 1.3 or a 1.3DOHC

I rebuilt mine and it's running great still. I now have 20,000 miles on it and crankin right along. I prefere that method, as apposed to buying JDM, because then you'll know what you have and you'll know what kind of oil it'll have running in it from day one. Sure, most of them work out great, but remanufacturing it, I think is better and a bit less than 800 bucks.
I think I have about 800 for remanufacturing the engine, plus a JDM tranny.:smokin:
