More to the last thread I posted....
While replacing the serpentine belt and looking for the coolant leak, I went to pull myself from under the car and grabbed hold of the right front strut. That corner of the car was suspended, and the whole assembly moved with me!! I popped off the cap under the hood, and can see the large nut/allen bolt move back and forth, side to side when pulling on the coil over.
The car has given absolutely no sign of front end problems up to now; it has 74K on it and has been pretty pampered since new.
Is there a recall or service bulletin on loose MacPhersons for the MK4 Jettas?
What would make it simply come loose like this I wonder, and is the only answer new struts?.............ugh....
