various questions

Hi all

I have a few questions to ask,
hopefully it will not be too confusing to have them all in one post

CHROME:
some time ago i bought this kit

and as of all cars of that era,
there're lots and lots of chrome.
unfortunately, the chrome quality is not the best
and some damage will be done when removing parts from the tree
also, i want all the chrome (including the window frame) to be the same color
which means i'm pretty sure i'll strip the chrome.
Question is,
what should i use to replace it?
i should state that i do not have an airbrush so alcad or whatever is not an option

1. bare metal foil...
- i have no experience with BMF
- i do not know if it will look good over large areas (bumpers)
- it might not give the mirror like finish like real chrome
2. spray can / brush paint (e.g. tamiya silver leaf)
- would be easier to apply on some parts
- probably will not look like chrome at all
3. touch up sprue attachment points
- easy
- colors might not match
any advices??

i really like this gen of camaro
i am deciding which one should i buy
the revell kit obviously have more optional parts (3 in 1)
however, i'm afraid their moldings will not be as good as fujimi's
but i've also heard that the fujimi kit has a horribly high floor
plus... fujimi is a lot more expensive...
any comments on these kits?

i am pretty sure aoshima and tamiya make the FC RX-7
the tamiya might be harder to find... but tamiya is usually the best
the "initial d" version... i'm not sure if it's aoshima / fujimi
regardless, and comments on all these kits?

I will do my best to help you out.

For the chrome the best paint is Alclad chrome which goes over gloss black enamel. The better choice is to get the parts as perfect as possible and send them to Chrometechusa.com for replating the parts. I try to touch up my chrome parts using Testors chrome enamel if I only need to fix small spots.

On the Camaro, Fujimi kits usually have nice bodies, no engine, inaccurate underside detail, and minimal interior detail. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO SOME OF THEIR LATEST RELEASES. The Revell will have more parts, more accurate underside and interior detail, the body may not be as clean as the Fujimi however. I have bought many Fujimi kits because I like the cars they produce and they can make a wonderful model.


On the RX-7, site unseen I would nearly always go for the Tamiya kit over any other brand. I have had great success with Tamiya so, it would take a specific reason not to choose the Tamiya.

Don't even bother Fujimi’s Camaro kit. It's a reissue of an ancient motorized kit (without the running mechanism), and it doesn't even compare with a static display kit like the Revell one. The Fujimi Camaro kit only makes sense in Japan, where import car kits traditionally cost $30. (Or, when you want to impress your friends by turning a crappy kit into a gem.) The only time you buy an old/motorized Japanese car kit is when you don't have any other alternatives.

Same with the FC. I suggest that you keep looking until you find a Tamiya kit (on eBay, momst likely). The kit design of Fujimi's FC is too outdated, so it needs a lot of work, especially the missing wheel housings on the chassis. Aoshima's FC is actually the newest of all, but it's build on the previously-released FD chassis, so besides the inaccuracies on the invisible areas, the wheelbase is inaccurate, and the body is probably a bit longer, too. If you don’t mind a few millimeters of inaccuracies, Aoshima’s FC isn’t too bad.
