I could score a free 97 DX motor, I was wondering could I use the MFPI ignition from it on my 89 DX, just wondering...

I think because it is an OBD-1 ( i think) you can't use it. But, surely you can use some parts from it. If it's free, take it, if you can't use it sell it and buy what you can use.

I do belive that 96-00 are OBD2 92-95 OBD1 and 88-91 OBD0. I don't belive that you can just swap it in there. BUT you can always just take the motor and use what you can and just keep the rest or part it out:)

Yes it is still a d series motor. But you have to take into consideration that you are crossing in to different ECU's.

really it's all or nothing. you can't mix dizzy, ecu, and intake mani. they all have to be from the same model. to run the correct ecu for that 97 you will have to rewire your stock harness to match the new ecu. if you're feeling like mac gyver....do it to it. however, i think it's WAAAAY more trouble than you're looking for.

That engine is a 1.6l, I'd just swap the whole engine - use your stock tranny, and the 97 engine and swap all the electronics, if you feel like doing it - it's be almost easier than doing just the MPFI.

to be honest...i was thinking "fuck that" about dropping in the whole thing....you would still have a wiring nightmare to run the correct ecu. i would wait for the b16. even though it takes more to drop it in (axels, shift linkage, motor mounts) it doesn't have the wiring nightmare
rewiring a stock harness = :bloated:
