fuel pump issue

New to posting. My son's 88 chevy stopped running. We put a little gas in the carb and it started and ran until gas was gone. When you turn on the key my son can hear the pump he thinks. Any Ideas?

Measure pressure at the filter (this requires an adapter on TBI engines. The pump should run for two seconds when the ignition is first turned on. There should be a minimum 11 PSIG.
