RCA cabling question

These may be really dumb questions, but I just want to make sure I don't do anything dumb.
I have a 4 channel amp, and a monoblock that accepts 2 inputs. My head-unit has 4 channel preouts and 2 more preouts for the subwoofer channel.
Assuming the 2 sub pre-outs from the head-unit aren't just from an internal y-splitter, and are actually from 2 preamp circuits; I imagine it'd be best to hook these both up to both the sub amp inputs, right? Or does it actually not make a difference?
Now the main question is, how would you run the RCA cables. The two amps are close enough to each other that I can get a 5.1 RCA set; using the front and rear cables for the speaker amp, and using the center and subwoofer cables for the 2 subwoofer inputs. Would this be an acceptable solution? As far as I know an RCA cable is an RCA cable, it doesn't matter what frequency range it's meant for. Or would I have to go with a 4 channel and a 2 channel RCA set?
I already have a 4 channel Stinger set, from when I had a 2 channel speaker amp, and the same sub amp. But that's from when I was sloppy and just threw a system together. Now I'm trying to do it "right."

a wire is a wire, using the 5.1 cable will discourage engine noise because they are all so close together.

Sub out put to sub input

RCA is RCA just match your outputs to your inputs
