car battery terminals.

today, when i put the key in the ignition and turned it, nothing happened. next i opened up the hood and saw some corrosion( i hadn't drove my car in about a week) in between the positive terminal. i walked to the store and got some pepsi, and poured it on it to get rid of the corrosion, and it worked like a charm. oh yeah, i have a side post batter if that matters. the extra red rubber stuff on the positive terminal looks melted. is there any way to change that rubber part?.


also is there any power difference between side post and top post batteries? im thinking about converting to top post, because i don't have enough space in between the battery and windshield washer fluid reservoir to use a ratchet to loosen up the nuts on each terminal, so im stuck working with a wrench in a small space.

You could do as shown below and eliminate the OEM crap altogether. I used industrial sized terminals and soldered the cables in the terminals, then installed gold plated side post studs for mounting the terminals. Never had an electrical problem since!
