Hi there, I just got my carb swapped out and had a carter racing series afb on my chevy 283 and when i got my car back from the mechanic he said that the choke was only reading like 7 volts or whatever so it wasnt powered all the way. any reason this might possibly be happening?

Wow not much info, I assume this is an Edelbrock carb with an electric choke. Is this the voltage at the plug disconnected from the carb or connected to the carb, and what was your mechanics thougths on the " problem." What are the wires connected to as a 12v source, lots of info missing as I said. Your 71 Lemans has a 283?

The only explaination I can come up with is that they tapped the coil power wire for the choke power (as it is located conveniently nearby). That wire has a built in resistance and knocks primary side voltage to the coil down to around 8 volts to prolong coil primary winding life.
