2001 Cherokee Sport Window Problem

My wifes son closed the pass side door fairly hard from what I have heard of the story. Now the window seems to be out of track and just falling down when pulled back up.

Has something broken or is it just out of the track ??

Also is this an easy job ? Its cold in NYC right now and don't need this problem but I have it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

Merry Christmas +1!

If the window's falling into the door, then it could be either a broken mount or some other part, but until you open up the door (remove the cover from the inside) to take a look at it, it's hard to say.

Hopefully you've got an enclosed space to work on it, and be prepared for a tight fit for your hand.

Have the door panel open and the window is in the track but something has to be disconnected from the window itself. I can't see what it may be and where. Like some linkage arm or does the window closest to the inside of the car have a motor that brings the window up and down ??

Locate the motor and follow it to the linkage that moves the window. I haven't had a Jeep door open (but have worked on several other makes I owned) but you'll find either some sort of cable or linkage. If you trace it from the motor to the window you should locate the bad part. Apologies, it's hard to describe without pointing. :)

Sounds like the regulator broke (the thingy that moves the window up and down).

This will give you some details. Some people use a pair of cotter pins to repair it.

Thanks Saudade. I didn't know particulars, just general stuff.

Thanks Saudade that is exactly what I'm looking at . A blue cable worm drive not connected to the window. I will order the parts since they look like a good repair compared to what it was . Also the price of 40$ is good. I will order, repair and repost on how it came out. Thanks for the link-Chris

Hey there!
I recently replaced the passenger side entire window assembly minus the glass. My friend works for a parts dealer and said there was only 2 part#s, one for the whole power mechanism, (spiral cable, motor, etc.) and then the glass window itself. Total price, $75. Total time for me to change it out with nothing more than a phillips screw driver & flash light, 20-30 minutes. It's yet again one of Jeeps awesome designs that allows the owner to avoid over priced repair shop costs!

If I knew where you were and could get there, I'd fix it for you! Was surprised to find just how easy getting it done was. PM me if you haven't gotten it fixed and need me to walk ya through it.

Got the new parts in from the guy -the replacement part in a little 1" coil on a 1" plate made of metal and a couple of 10/32 screws for mounting. It says I have to remove all the stuff-regulator -spriral cable --grind off a rivet-blah blah. The regulator still works and the spiral cable if fine. It states that I must remove the FUZZ on the cable end which I can see so the fit into the new metal part is tight. Its been friggin cold here in NY and I'm taking care of my dad right now so maybe I get into this next week. To me it looks like I could just grind off the rivet holding the old broken plastic mount and just putthe new spiral plate in without going through all the other crap.It just seems like alot of extra work in there somehow. I could be wrong.

Anyone do this??

What did you get from jeep for 75. The whole reg-cable-mount assembly??

It looks from the instructions I'm removing EVERYTHING to mount this piece.

I still have a few days so anyone who has maybe used these parts have a shortcut please post-otherwise I will have no choice..

Since you said 1/2 hr for the replacement and I'm told 3hrs.
Hell it takes 1/2hr just to remove the door panel-speaker and the other cprappis..LOL

OK--Finally had time to get back into this window problem..Bought the part from Steiger

I looked hi and low for a quicker way to do this but there is none.

If your following his 2 pg instuctions just do what it says.

Not knowing how EXACTLY how the whole system functioned led me to belive at first that there was a shortcut--THERE IS NONE

What the instuructions should mention in the very first sentence was to follow them exactly BECAUSE (other than he's done it before you and designed a replacement piece) .

When the cable bracket snaps your inclined to keep pushing the power window button UP basically causing the cable to the top of the end of the upper tube and possibly Jammed (which he go's over) as mine was.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to think for yourself--JUST DO IT
