Missing F1

Started a contract worker last week and he saw all of my GTR pictures on my office wall.
He started asking questions and I told him I was planning to sell up and buy one.
To my surprise he satarted telling me about two of the owners of a company in the North East of England who had bought the remains of a crashed F1.
He then went on to describe how they aquired all of the parts to rebuild the monocoque and running gear.
I started to smell a rat when he then said they could not get an F1 engine for it so had to resort to installing a gallardo engine.
Now we know a couple of F1's have been crashed then dissapeared, my thoughts are is this just a flight of fancy on my mans part or could there be any truth in it.
I am going to do some digging and will report back any findings.

Yes sounds a bit far fetched to me too, I am very sceptical about it but may be worth looking into just in case.
I mean if they got the parts to rebuilt it I am sure someone in the Mclaren arena would have heard about it before now.
And any hint of a non Mclaren engine and am sure Mclaren would have been down on them with all of their legal team.

Very interesting, i've always been intrigued with the wrecked F1's.

One thing, a gallardo engine? I know they are fairly common (for an exotic car), but shouldn't they go for a v12?

Ah the problem is and this has hit most F1 replica builders as well is that the Mclaren V12 is very compact and a lot shorter than most V12's hence the gallardo or BMW V10 would be a quite logical choice actually though down on power.

Oh, it's a space issue.
I guess if you're building a replica a v10 is good enough.:biggrin:
