high amp alternator

does anyone know where i can find a higher output alternator for a 97 grand prix gtp. anything higher than stock should be fine, anyone know just let me know thanks

is there a reason your looking for a higher amp alternator? the reason i ask is because a dry cell battery (i.e. optima) may be a cheaper route.

Optima yellow or red top battery a cheaper route? Maybe not because they cost $150 and up. Plus they are known to have a high failure rate in the winter time. I installed an Optima red top for possible future sound system mods and allegedly superior performance over the stock battery in my son's Alero. It only lasted about 3 months and failed on the first freeze up in New York. Luckily we purchased it through Autozone, was in the computer database, and had it replaced for free due to the premature failure. If you decide to use an Optima IMO it is best to relocate it to the trunk versus being exposed in the engine compartment or be sure to protect it with a battery blanket.

Once of the best mods for a high wattage sound system is beefing up the stock alternator output wire.

the reason is i have a 3 amplifier audio setup that sucks an enormous amount of power considering i have a stock alt. my lights and displays dim ALOT on bass hits. i have already upgraded my alternator to battery, block to chassis, and battery to chassis. (the big 3) i put 4 gauge for all of those, and kept the stock 8 gauge. this made a difference but deffinately not enough. right now i just have a napa battery because i killed a cell in my old one(not 100% sure if it was because of my system). i was thinkin about a kinetik battery but i figured thats just more work for the stock alternator. also i live in cleveland ohio so if dry cell batteries freeze up, then id be having a problem around this time of year...

Try these sites below. They have 200-220 watt alternators for your year and engine. The stock Delco CS-130 alternator is rated at 105 amps. It looks like your only other option considering you have the other typical mods.

are the alternator for a 97 and 99 different? i found some other ones but it says 99-03. as far as i know the engine is set up the same from 97-03

Yes they are different. The mounting is different and the brackets, etc. Rule of thumb is use the one for '97 only since you have a '97. The original GM part number was 10464075. '98 uses it own by GM part number, 10464086. '99-'03 use the same, 10464448.
