We have the above mentioned vehicle that sometimes the radio will not shut off when the ignition is turned off. We removed the front unit and it kept playing. Removed rear unit with front plugged in and it shuts off with key on. So we replaced rear unit. It shuts off when the ignition is turned off------------------------------sometimes. We unplugged TR sensor and it continues to play. We have a couple of choices left. The front unit or possibly the ignition switch. We can turn the radio off and then turn the key off and it stays off. None of the stereo controls work when the key is off. Just continues to play when ignition is off. As always, any input is welcomed and appreciated

Any chance there is another 2000 in your fleet that you could pull the front control unit from to see if that is the cause? If not, you could pull the front control unit and check for voltages on the various pins of the connectors to see if you have the correct voltages at the correct times. I would need to study the diagram for 2000 (of which I do not have a service manual for) to see if the ACP (or is it wakeup) line is supposed to go to 5 volts or other to turn the deck on, along with the ACC supply line. If those are functioning as expected, that would pretty much pinpoint the front control unit as the culprit.
You might also want to take you WDS or similar scan tool and check the GEM unit to make sure the door pin switches are functioning properly. Did your Taurus have an exit delay for the radio, similar to the one for the power windows and sunroof?
I was all ready to suggest TRS, but then I read you already tried disconnecting that.

I am not sure if this one had the delay or not. I don't think it does, because when it decides to turn off when the ignition is off, it completely shuts off with ignition. When I can get my hands on it again, I will swap the front unit with another and let you know. I am still wondering about the ignition switch also. Bad switches do lots of crazy things for seemingly no reason. Thanks for the input.
