i have a 92 f-150 4wd 5.0L. i found a newer motor for it from a 1995 with 58,000 miles. i got it in and ready to go but now it wont start. i didnt get out there and check any of the basics yet such as spark & fuel due to crappy buffalo weather........ but i was wondering is all the wiring on the 2 engines the same? sensors the same? i left it all there and just plugged it into my harness. i did find that the firing order was different from the 95 to my 92. i fixed that. being dark when i get home @ 5:00 its most likely gonna wait till the weekend again. any input b4 that would be great! who knows maybe it has bad gas in it. its been sitting since february.

well we had a bit of warm weather. still nothing. im getting spark. and i have fuel. tried using both gas tanks. tried to switch the harness and put the one from my old motor on it. nothing. ether only caused a bit of flames to come out the intake.
i changed the firing order several times. i read it one way for a 92 but a different way for a 95. mines a 92 so i changed them back that way since the new motor was out of a 95. the previous owner of the truck however wrote the firing order under the hood in marker and it says the 1995 firing order. i tried both ways but still nothing.
could it be a sensor or something? its turning over but it doesn't seem to want to do anything. i tried to cross reference all the sensors and it seems they all match up. the distributors are the same in both years. down to about 12 degrees out there again so in a few days i might give it another shot if i can get any input from on here.

Could be a ground issue, starter could be bad, battery cables, firing order, timing, starter switch/regulator... etc

new starter, new cables, new battery. the firing order and timing are what im having issues with i think.

Only a little input here as I just want to throw something in to think about. If you got flames out of your intake, then 99% sure you got your timing wrong. You may have it wired correctly, but there is something else wrong with the timing...

thanks ken man. right on with that.........i looked at the position of the distributor on the motor i pulled out and it was alot different than the one i put in. i loosened the hold down bolt and turned the distributor while turning the truck over and it fired right up when it was in the same location. must be different timing between the 92 and 95 f-150.
well just have a few things to wrap up to get it all finished. 58000 miles is gonna be like a brand new motor in that truck. the old one had over 250000, lol. after sitting im sure theres gonna be some brake issues........my brake booster has been leaking too. is there a seal behind that?
