question about times

hey, i got a question, i'm about to start rebuild my engine with preformance parts and the like, but before i started i wanted to get an approximate time in the quarter, so i can see just what my money has gotten me. there isn't a track anywhere around here i can get a precise run on, but in a quarter i can get it to 115 or so, anyone form experience or just knowledge know about what time that would give me, withen a second or 2?
just for the curious, its a 95 ford contour, with the V-6, 24valve DOHC... about 175hp stock. 5 speed automatic tranny, shifted through the gears on that run to get better acceleration. thanks everyone for your time and thought

with the power you're saying you've got, you're not going to hit 115 in the 1/4.
considering that 100-105 is about 14.14-5 seconds, and your car stock won't do much more than a mid 15...
you'd be 13s or 12s with a 115 speed in the 1/4.

The only way a stock contour can hit 115mph in the 1/4 is if you drop it out of a plane

yea, everything you say sounds right, its stuff that i've thought about, i'm thinking now that the speedometer is off, i know i've had problems with it before, i'm gonna have that checked out today. i was thinking that that wounded a little outrageous for a stock contour, even my SE, and it didn't feel that fast. i've driven my uncle's 9 sec car before (not at the speed, but i know what it feels like over 100, 115, 130, and i didn't think it was there, i'm gonna check into it and post again, i apperciate the info and not being overly critical about my lack of knowledge. i'm glad i found this site

lol:D :p
But yea, they're right. A 115 trap would net you a low 12 with good traction. Trust me you're nowhere near that. For the record let's say you're running a mid-15. Now get to work going faster!:)

Where are you in La. ? Have you ever been to No Problem Raceway. Its a brand new road course/auto X course/drag strip in Belle Rose.

in Natchitoches, student at Northwestern state university, i'll look that place up tonight, thanks. i'm just now getting into the sport, any advice as to where to start with mods would be greatly apperciated by anyone, my budget is low, but constant. i'm thinking about a new chip, one online promises 17hp to my current engine for about $225, then a cold air intake and after that high flow cat converter and exhaust.

You wont get 17hp from a reprogrammed ECU in a N/A engine. Sorry they are lying. You are likely to see 6-8hp though.
What I would do, port and polish, intake, headers, exhaust, and if you can afford S/C

I just have one question to ask you before I state my opinion:
How much do you have budgeted for this project?

to get some serious performance you need to super or turbocharge your engine. Custom cougars has a t28 with air/water intercooler that should fit your duratech also vortech has a supercharger.
another mods you can do is get the st200 uper and lower intake manifolds aka SVT manifold you can combine that with a bigger throtle body.

Vi = 0
vf = Vu + at
Vf-Vu / a = t
47.916m/s - 0 / 9.81m/s^2 = 4.88 seconds
thus throwing it out of a plane would not achieve 115 mph in 13 seconds thus it would not take 1/4 mile
d = 1/2 ( 47.916 ) 4.88 = 116.91504 meters
375*2 / 47.916 = 15.65 second 1/4 miles (i probably have my mile to kilometer conversion a bit inaccurate
but your statement is false
:devil: thankyou come again
