Well lets start off with my car. Its an 04 Taurus SEL DOHC engine. 40k on the clock.

Here are the problems I'm having:
1. After prolonged driving the lights in the gage bezel flicker when I turn off the vehicle. This causes the alarm to go off when I open the door to get out. It happens spuratically but is becoming more regular.
2. The trans light is on, just started today.
3. Occaisonally the lights will dim as I raise or lower the power windows.

Pulled the code and it was P0606. It read: ECM Internal Comm. error. Memory fault

Searched through the old forums, all I got out of it was a new ecm for my car.
As for the other faults, I have not tested the battery or alternator yet. My main concern is the trans light(ECM???) Thanks in advance.

The following is a short version of the repair for your trouble code.

P0606 - Powertrain Control Module Internal Communication Error

P0606 indicates a register readback (PCM internal communications) error. Damaged PCM

For Electronic Throttle Control applications, an internal PCM failure, or an ETC system FMEM condition exists. Repairing the other DTCs can fix the P0606. For all others, an internal PCM concern may be present. For both applications if only DTC P0606 is present, clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test. Repair as necessary. If DTC P0606 is retrieved again, install a new PCM.

By trans light I meant the check engine light...it looks like a transmission to me. I wasnt thinking earlier...DUH!!!:eek7:

Anyone have similar problems with the gage lights? It almost sounds like a relay clicking back and forth when it does it.

Reread what Way2old said. It really sounds like the computer needs to be replaced. Clear the code. If it comes back on then replace the computer. I'm not sure what your warranty is, but I'd try to have Ford foot the bill. There is no way a PCM should go out in 40k miles.

One last thing. With the flickering lights, you may have a short or ground somewhere or maybe a loose harness connection. Check your wiring because it may be causing the PCM error.

The PCM should be coverewd for either 5 years/50,000 miles under the federal emissions warranty. Contact local dealer or look in the owners maaaaaaaaaaanual. If you don't have a manual, click here. Just FYI...I looked into it a little more...it is part of the Federal Emissions Warranty which is 8 years/80,000 mi. for Ford, atleast thats what my manual says so I'll be heading to the dealership after work today. Thanks to everyone for all the help
