I have a 95 buick regal with 3.8L engine. My car will die while I'm driving and the battery light comes on. When I pull over to try and restart it the car won't turn over and after trying to start it about 5-6 times the car makes a clicking noise and the battery dies.:eek7: Also when I turn my car off to go into a store and then come out to start it the car won't turn over and acts like it wants to, After it sets for at least an hour it will start. We have changed the fuel pump, starter, computer. The altenator is at least a couple years old and Autozone tested the battery and altenator and said they were fine. Please help. The last time we had to jump it after it sitting all day to get it home. I tried starting it the next day and it acted dead again.:banghead:

My friends car was doing the same thing. He had the alternator check by Autozone (cause that's where it came from), they said it tested good. Took the car to the shop, and come to find out the alternator was bad. Try swapping out the altenator for another one to see if it's the real problem. But good luck with Autozone, he had to fight with the manager to swap it out, but was well worth it.

It is most likely the battery.(or connections)
Did you get loss of radio?cassette?
Cheers

your symptom description is a little misleading, so lets break it down and get a little more specific infromation.
1. I have a 95 buick regal with 3.8L engine. My car will die while I'm driving and the battery light comes on. When I pull over to try and restart it the car won't turn over and after trying to start it about 5-6 times the car makes a clicking noise and the battery dies.:eek7:
By this, do you mean that the starter will actually crank the engine, it just doesn't start (until the battery dies after the 5-6 attempts)?
2. Also when I turn my car off to go into a store and then come out to start it the car won't turn over and acts like it wants to, After it sets for at least an hour it will start.
By this, do you meant the starter cranks but too slow to allow the engine to fire up, or that it cranks and sputters like it wants to start but then just turns over?
3. We have changed the fuel pump, starter, computer. The altenator is at least a couple years old and Autozone tested the battery and altenator and said they were fine. Please help. The last time we had to jump it after it sitting all day to get it home. I tried starting it the next day and it acted dead again.:banghead:
did anything change after swapping the parts mentioned above, or did the car continue to do the exact same thing?

I had a similar situation on my Buick. Thought it was the starter so took it to AZ and they said it was bad. Put the replacement starter in and it started up but next day did the same thing again. I found out the positive cable from the battery to the starter was bad (intermittent). Changed that out with one from NAPA and problem solved until the 8 month old replacement starter broke but thats another story. Try moving the positive cable around when it does it I could get mine to turn over.

A bad starter will rarely if ever cause the car to die while driving. I'm asking for clarification to the OP's symptom description to avoid guessing and having this thread get too convoluted.

My vote would be for a bad battery connection, we had that in another one of our vehicles. Try cleaning your terminals really well and see if that corrects the problem.
