True that Autostrada! Yeah you will cut your knuckles, and no it is not an option. The fuel filter is located under the plate that your battery sits on top of. If I recall right you may have to remove or at least loosen the windshield washer fluid resevoir to get a better shot at it too. But yeah, toughen up and get it done lol. Bloody knuckles FTW!

I didn't want to make a new post seeing that i have alot right now, but i think i fuel issue already:headshake :headshake . I think i need to get a new fuel filter, or fuel pump. Here are some signs

-Car shuts off randomly after driving
-Sometimes it will start back up right after it shuts off. other times it has to sit for hours
- Speeds above 50mph if i step on the gas it doesn't go up quickly as it should
- Jump on in off while driving and the check engine light comes on and off
- while idling i can smell gas and it idles fine until i give it gas then it will try to shut off.

It's not the engine because it did the same thing with the old one.

I was going to say there was a chance that it could be a failing ECU as that is not uncommon in first generations. However, when I read that you smell gasoline that leads me to other ideas. Could possibly be the fuel filter, I don't think it would be a fuel pump going out because that would not cause any gasoline odor, but it could be a leak in the line somewhere...even a small one. With your fuel pump constantly pressuring the lines, even an untightend connection could be lower your fuel pressure. Whatever it was they did with your car, did they mess with the fuel filter or any fuel lines? If either the top or bottom part of the fuel filter is not tightend properly, it could very well leak. My advice; Open up the hood and start the car for just a moment and then shut it off. Check for leaks to the lines feeding the fuel rails, the "w" loop that connects the fuel rails, and lastly (if you have not found it yet), take the battery out and the plate it sits on and check if you are getting a leak down there. And with a possible fuel leak, I would NOT drive the car at all until you get it fixed.

It was doing this way before i needed a new engine at happened to come tommrow. I drove from philadelphia to atlantic (1 hour) with no problem on satuday nite. then for two days with no problems put gas in on sunday and on tuesday out of now where bam. this hits it started it up just now with no problem then it shut back off while idling and started it again it didn't want to turn over but after a little push on the gas itcame on i held the rpms at 2,000rpm and it just died after awhile:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

what gas do you use?

I ask because i always run shell 93, and one day i put some cheap-o gas in and it ran like shit. no stalling like your describing, but it definitely ran worse on the bargain crap. It almost seemed like it had some water in it or something.

where do you live? atlantic city, nj?

for a leak, i've always just put cardboard under the car, the next day move the car and check for any wet spots. does the car sputter at all before stalling, or does it just quit out?

I live in Egg Harbor New Jersey 20min from atlantic city. But i just ran a can of dry gas through it and it didn't start at first then wooooommmm it was idling a little low then slowly raised up to 1000rpm, and i let it sit for 30 sec then took it out for a drive all was going great car had power then them rpm gauge jumps the check engine light flashes on the goes off because the car shut off real quick then came back on, the electronics didn't turn off. I did it a couple more times so i pulled over turned it off and it started back up did this about three more times but i didn't have to stop the car. Then the car shut off completely but i started while going and it came right on. it seems to shut off when i'm turning and at low speeds when i'm breaking. Then i pulled her up to my driveway and i shut her off and wanted to see if i could start it back up but she didn't want to turn back on it was shaking like it was going to turn back on but just couldn't quite get there. Just before it shuts off while crusing it shakes a bit.:disappoin :disappoin

Hmmm, maybe there is some gas that is very slowly leaking somewhere but I am starting to lean towards checking the ECU. You have a first gen ECU which is known for having leaky caps in it. I had the same problem with my car. It would start up fine, drive for a bit, and then shut off and not want to turn back on after getting warmed up a bit. It is really quite simple to check if any of the capacitors have been leaking. Your ECU is located behind your radio. You will want to take off the carpeted panel on the side of your middle console. It consists of a couple screws and snaps. When you get that take off, you will see a bunch of wires running to a somewhat goldish metal box...that is your ECU. Disconnect the wires from the ecu and then unscrew the ECU from its mounted position. Once you have the ECU out you can unscrew a couple screws on the ecu so that you can take the top off of it. Once you have done that, check for any caps that could have leaked on to the board. If you see any that have leaked on to the board, that is your problem. Sometime they can be cleaned and saved but more times than not you will have to buy a used/rebuilt/new ECU. I went with a rebuilt ECU.

Here is a pictuer of the ECU being pulled out:
