easy question that anyone could answer - importing

Hi,

I'm considering importing a headunit from the US to the UK because they're sooo much cheaper - even with shipping.

The easy question i want to know is what does the US FM radio frequency range start at and what does it go up to? I've imported CDs before so there shouldn't be a problem there - unless anyone knows otherwise?....

87.0 to 108.x

on FM, the american frquencies are odds ........ 99.1, 99.3, 99.5, etc - on a european tuner, the evens are included too .... 99.1, 99.2, 99.3, 99.4, etc. You won't be able to get them all. The range is the same but europe also uses some of what we call shortwave (SW) for radio broadcasts. The AM is even worse, US is on 10's ....... 770, 780, 790, etc - europes IIRC is on the 7 standard 770, 777, 784. So don't expect much if it's US specs only.

The good news is that I think paperfish is right on that one, most of them are programmed for both nowadays since it costs pennies at the maunfacturing level - and they don't have to build 2 product lines.

thanks for your replies :)

yeah, i see what your saying about them building one unit that caters for both euro and us markets, the models i'm thinking of importing are the sony cdx-m800 and the pioneer deh-p6500r, mainly because both show a major saving in money terms (£180 compared to £350) but also because the sony is still an unreleased model over here.

is there any way of checking? i mean i'm pretty sure sony or pioneer won't tell me because i imagine they frown on the whole import scene...

I know your not looking directly at them, but JVC has a few decks which allow you to choose either US or European freq's.
