Normally, I wouldn't tell anyone about something like this, but as AF users, you deserve to know of my failing logic.
A few months ago, i put on my Megan racing cat-back. Beautiful.
Now, the winter is here. And since my cav, my only car, is forced to see the salty streets of Cleveland, i wanted to protect the exhaust.
I searched online for a flame retardant material and found therma-flec. After reading that it can support up to 450+ degrees of heat, i bought enough to wrap the exhaust in and went to Lowe's for some hose clamps.
After spending 2 hours or so making sure it was secure enough to last all winter, i took it for a ride. I got to Lowe's where i was going to return my extra hose clamps i didn't need. But when i got out of the car, a smell overwhelmed me. I took a look under the car and saw some smoke rising from the material. not a lot, but enough. So i sat down and thought.
I remembered i cleaned it with brake cleaning before sealing it, had no clue if that stuff burned or not, so i figured it was that, and went home. When i got there, i checked under the car, and everything seemed fine.
Yesterday i took the car to school a half hour from home, and the smell was back. When i got home, i ripped it all off.
Toward the cat, the material kind of fried to the chrome, but toward the back, its just kind of discolored. I put 60 dollars into preserving it, and ended up aging it.
Moral of the story...I'm not sure, im an idiot.
Anyone know a real powerful stainless steal cleaner?
criticism is welcome, but please, be nice.

Ah ha ha ha ha ha....
We've got some shit at the shop which restores Stainless steel to its pretty shine. But I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I know is a blue acid that comes in a plastic can we brush onto our welds and it pulls the carbon and anything off the surface out.
