Hi guys,

I just wonder, it shows on HLJ that it is "water-soluble". So, it is possible to use as a clear coat over decals? Would it eat them up?

I ask because I have not invested in a spray gun yet...:icon16:

Thanks in advance.

If you mean this one - absolutely safe over decals.

This is my fav gloss that I use exclusively now on everything (decals or no decals). Easy to lay down and very forgiving to use.

PS For reference, it was used on the Aston Martin DBR9 and Scaglietti 612 china Tour in my sig

This product is very safe over decals. I use'it on my last project and it works fine. For example se below my Mclaren...

May I ask how it responds to heavy polishing.. compared to say TS-13 or Gunze's super clear?
Thanks,
Steve

It's harder to polish than TS13; it feels like Teflon and dries harder than TS13. Polishes out well, but you work a bit harder to get it polished vs. using Tamiya compounds on Tamiya TS paints. It's great stuff. It can be decanted and airbrushed and cut with either Mr. Color Thinner or Tamiya's own lacquer primer.

Sweet, a new must try for me then... I have a very heavy hand and polish through to the base paint quite often... Thanks for the info.

SteveI have that same problem. I've been looking for a tough clear coat. Anyone know what it's like compared to Halfords clear lacquer? I know theirs is very hot but I don't know how hard it cures.

Geee...I forgot to post the link or the pic. Thanks, klutz_100.

And thanks everyone for your valuable advice. Now I don't have to worry about lacking a spray pen for the projects.:grinyes:

I was wondering about this stuff because on the can that I read at the hobby store. It said it was not compatible with decals.

Maybe it is another Gunze spray can you read that! I think is this :

Like Tamiya TS 13 are NOT compatible over decals, i ruined once the decals with this stuff. But Gunze Mr. Hobby Topcoat Gloss in blue spray can is a water soluble clear and is very indicated to use him over decals (to seal decals). Like ZoomZommMX5 already answered, i confirm that this clear is harder an shines better than Tamiya TS 13.

Oh, ok. Yeah that was the stuff, but I thought it had a blue can:confused: . Strange TS-13 is not compatable with decals? I painted over them before with that, light coats though. I guess I got lucky that time.

A nice point is that this clear is available with Semi Gloss and Flat finish.

Mr. Super Clear is in the bigger grey spraycan like the photo i already show you, Mr. Gunze Top Coat is a smaller blue spraycan ( what is shown by klutz 100 and is exact size of Tamiya TS 13 spraycan). Both are sold in gloss, semi gloss and matt.
I think decals are diferent from producer to producer, so it's possible that Mr. Super Clear or Tamiya TS 13 will not harm some of this decals. Anyway, with this spraycan i feel that i'm on the safe side!:)
