If you are talking about the actual reverse lights, also referred to as the back-up lights, I would check the loom of wires in the trunk by the driver's side trunk hinge. Open up the loom and check for frayed or broken wires there. I would note at the tail light section what color wires are used for the brake lights and the back-up lights, and pay particular attention to those wires, but check them all. The wires in that loom have a tendency to frey and brake over time from all the flexing they are exposed to over the years, as the trunk is constantly opened and closed.

Are you possibly referring to the brake warning light? If so, it probably indicates you are low on brake fluid.

No no... you know how there is parking, reverse, neutral, drive, 2, L indicators in the speedometer instrument.
The reverse light sometimes turns on when i press the brake.
And about the trunk(tail) lights. All of them are working.
I've heard about two things 1) that the alternator isn't working properly and 2) the brake needs adjustments.
are any of those true.??

Not sure what the problem is but I'm gonna say 1 isnt it and 2 might be it if they meant the wires to your brake lights needed to be adjusted...

You're talking about the "R" in the PRNDL gear indication correct? Just a hunch but, there is an electronic filter downstream of the brake switch in the same circuit. It's behind the dash on the driver's side up high. No idea how to check it but, it's there. Could also be a neutral safety switch problem. It also acts as the sending unit for gear indications. It's on the transaxle. Next time you see the R light up wiggle the gearshift handle. If the light goes out or blinks, could be the switch.

Should I be concerned or just keep it just the way it is ? I tried changing the gears when it came on but it still stayed on.

RIP,
If it's the dash light indicator I wouldn't bother. I had my 89' Camry done twice in it's lifetime and the bill is very high to replace. If mine doesn't come on all the time I don't lose sleep because of it. If it's replaced expect a big bill from the dealership.
