Interior - needs some touching up with a brush. Colours used were flat flesh, german grey and flat brown

Body - finished painting yesterday with duplicolour automotive paints (3 wet coats) and 3 coats of duplicolour clear

Wheels are going to be from the Tamiya 350Z. Since I don't have a dremell, I had quite a hard time getting the wheels to sit well in the wheel arches. Thinking of adding a SAS wing too.
Question - there is quite a bit of orange peel on the body - what grit of sandpaper do you guys reckon I ought to start sanding with (after about 7 days or so)?

When i used a dupli color automotive paint, i could smell a burning reaction between plastic and paint. I think it melts it?
Looking good anyway, u got some orange peal there. :p

I would suggest using 3600 grade or thereabouts, If you cant get hold of such fine grades then 1500+ will do. I have acheived mirror finishes on auto paints sanded with 1500 followed by lots of rubbing with the appropriate rubbing compound. The great thing about auto paints is that they are very durable and very forgiving, if you put the work in you will get this model gleaming!;)

I found something out by testing. The heavier amount of paint, the less orange peal on the body. I just did that to my mazda, and got reflection everywhere. Still you can see small ripples but its not a biggie now eh?

Finally got to polishing the car after using a polishing kit for the 1st time.

Up close however, you can still see what would be orange peel - thing I don't know if its the metallic colour that does that (1st time with metallics) - either that or I haven't really used the polishing kit well enough. Oh well, live and learn I guess
Sitting on the wheels from the 350Z.

Put the final touches soon.

Just some tips using Duplicolor paints: you should spray them on thin, and you should spray a LOT of coats. Hawk312 uses as many as 10 coats of Duplicolor Clear before he's ready to start polishing, this is cause the Duplicolor Clear is so thin. Also, don't spray 'wet' coats in the sense of flooding the model with paint, as it won't dry even. Then you can start polishing after it cures (which the can says takes 48 hours.)

My friend used dupli color or something else, and it melted his model.?!?!

That's because he didn't prime it with the right primer, and sprayed too thick. Duplicolor is a lacquer paint which attacks plastic, if you use a good lacquer primer it won't.

Thanks for the tip on duplicolour daggerlee. Unfortunately, I've learnt that the hard way - my Evo III body is now sitting in brake fluid cos I sprayed 'conventionally' - ending with the wet coats. But, thanks anyway.

Any brake fluid will do, as long as it's not higher than dot3, or was it dot5, guys????
The aristo is coming along great, the rims give the car the luxury look it should have. It looks much better after polish! :D

Finished the kit. 1st time for an Aoshima kit and 1st time not using the stock wheels. I can't say I was too pleased with the kit. I had a fitment issue when I initially test fitted it, but got that solved. But, at the end of it all, when I tried to fit the glass - it just refused to slot in correctly and as a result of it not fitting properly, the body does not sit well and alas, the big gaps in the front wheel arches. :( Oh well, live and learn I guess.
