What would you all recommend that fit the following
Reasonable Price - Under $8,000
Intended for Daily use for driving to school, racing, and drifting.
Mods - Of course, whatever I can afford
Gas mileage is unimportant
2 door
5 speed
RWD
Reliability is always nice
I own a 1989 auto nissan 240sx and Im selling it because it has a few dents in it and I want a 5spd, Im thinking about buying another 240 with a manual tranny and doing a sr20det engine swap, or buying a 300zx but I hear they are pretty heavy and hard to learn to drift in. Any advice is greatly apreciated :)

86-93 Ford Mustang GT 5.0... 5spd, light car, Big motor, can be made to handle good... Easy to access Horsepower.
Can usually pick them up for around 2-3k, leaving 5-6K on performance parts. Easy to achieve 300+ streetable horsepower.
87-92 Camaro RS (I'd say Z28 but the 350's only came in Auto) 5spd, fairly light, Motor can be swapped easily for 350, can be made to handle good. Swap out 305 for 350... endless power opportunities.
Can usually pick them up for around 2-3k, leaving 5-6k for 350 Swap and Performance parts. Easy to achieve 300+ streetable horsepower.
Or... since you say gas isn't much of an issue...
What about Pre '73 cars?
Mustangs can be built to handle good.. and make good power. Endless power opportunties...
2nd Generation Camaros (70-73) can be made to hand really well, along with endless power opportunities.
What about a 70-73 Datsun 240z? Those can be made to do almost anything.
Dont forget you can swap in a EFI motor into anyone of these pre-73 cars and make them a very reliable and efficient combination. Along with no California smog restrictions.

I have to agree 100% with this. There's not a better performance car for under 8 grand. I could also point you to 1g DSMs but you mentioned drifting so that wouldn't work. Correct me if i'm wrong on this but wouldn't a 5.0 make a decent drifter?

I have to agree 100% with this. There's not a better performance car for under 8 grand. I could also point you to 1g DSMs but you mentioned drifting so that wouldn't work. Correct me if i'm wrong on this but wouldn't a 5.0 make a decent drifter?

Yeah.. it'd make an ok drifter... it being somewhat nose heavy would help out i'd assume. Having a lighter rear end would make it easier to break the ass loose. Not to mention its crap load of torque.
Oh... and the Fox Body mustangs are just shy of 3000lbs... 2800lbs if Im not mistaken... Not heavy at all considering what they can do.

im a bit biased, but you can pick up a second gen 7 (like mine :D) for cheap, and they guzzle gas too, which you said you dont care about. The only thing is the reliability, but taht's not as big of a deal as everyone things, and with its being a fooking light car AND 50/50, the ass end likes to kick out like no other. Fun car.

As much as I hate to admit that anything compares to an Rx-7, fox body mustangs are the best car performance wise for $10,000 or under, period.
Hell, if your good with a wrench you could have 3-400 RWHP and at least damn close to a 50/50 weight distribution with handling that will allow it to hang with any rx-7 on a track.
Those cars are just so incredibly easy to work with. The only motor that has much aftermarket, and even just maintenance support than the 5.0 i'd say would be the 350, but i mean you can just fall in a ditch and find a new crank for a 350.
