I have a 2000 regal with the 3800.It will not start, dash is flashing, clicking under dash. I hooked up my snap on scanner and no communication untill i turn on the head lights. I then get the code u1040 loss of EBCM/EBTCM communication. I replaced the body control module and the dash is still flashing, no start. Please help! This car is driving me crazy!!

1st check the connections at the battery but I think you need a new computer. I'd get a computer from a junkyard & give it a try. The junkyards around here let you return a part if doesn't help.

You may have a bad ignition switch/harness assembly. It's a very common problem on these cars and could cause your symptoms.

Well i have now changed the ecm and the dash lights stopped flashing but the car still will not crank over. I push the unlock button next to the shifter and as i put the car from park to any other gear the miles and the oil life change. Is the key switch making this car freak out like THIS?:banghead:

Any ignition controlled circuit can be affected by a bad ignition switch/harness. The contacts where the harness connects to the vehicle harness get weak and start arcing causing all sorts of odd electrical gremlins. The most common symptoms to first show up are a blinking information center and/or dash lights, key sticking in the ignition and HVAC problems. Since the BCM gets a signal from the switch, it's operation can also be affected. I would have the battery checked first, and make sure all the battery cables are clean before jumping into the switch, but I'm thinking a new ignition switch is in your near future.

After replacing all the parts the car is doing the same thing, No crank, dash flashing, i turn the head light on and dash stops flashing but still now crank. I also installed a new battery, check all cables, all connections are good. Motor and trans has never been touched meaning replaced and has 130000 miles. So is my last hope would be the ignition switch ????? Thanks everyone for the help.:banghead:

I think most likely a ground.
See if you can find a good spot and add a ground.

Well i fixed the car. I talked to the GM help line and they said that the battery goes bad and shorts out the ignition switch. So i took the covers off and tapped on the switch while tring to start and it fired right up. Went to my parts store and paid 60.00 bucks for the switch.Followed the replacement info i found in another tread from here and went smothly. THANK YOU all for all the help. This is a great forum and will be back to help others . :grinno:
