I have a '97 Caravan with a 3.8L and have had two tensioners fail on the road. The car has 112k. The manual doesn't say anything about replacing it. Is this something that should be replaced and how often? The car is driven in snow from time to time and warm weather in the summer..if that has anything to do with it.

The tensioner will get rusty & crusty inside where the spring is and will not put enough tension on the belt. OR It will start squealing due to a bearing. Two reasons why to replace.
