i have heard that it is good to change the filter and fluids but I have also heard that you should not do it. Just wanting to get some ideas from someone else's point of view.

I have a 95 lumina ls with the 460te transmission with 85k Just wondering

If not done yet, way overdue, just change the fluid and filter, no power flushes.

yeah I was not going to do any massive cleaning. The fluid is a little dark but not bad and soesnt smell burnt. Would that help my gas mileage increase as well because that would be an added bonus

Would you recomend a filter kit I know if you get a delco filter it has a replaceable gasket.

Thanks again

I have put in many filter kits at 100k and haven't had a problem. Even put synthetic in one of my old cars. Never has increased fuel mileage but has smoothed out shifting.

All I here are problems after a flush was done with the machine and I know a transmission shop in my area that see them doing valve body cleanings and rebuilds.Change the fluid and filtet andone more thing: Do not throw away the pan gasket! The pan gasket is reusable and the pan gasket in the filter kit is a black gasket that has problems with leaking.A great additive is Lucas, for the transmission and this stuff works.

Yeah my '97 has a very nice OE gasket, silicone rubber with integral metal carrier and torque limiters on the bolt holes, better than anything in a tranny kit and totally reusable if in good shape.

I'd recommend a partial fluid change (just what's in the pan, about 7 qts) and a filter.

No flushes or additives, as the others said. And no, if it was shifting ok before, it's not gonna improve fuel mileage. But it will extend tranny life....

It's also a good time to add a drain plug, making future service more pleasurable.
