i have read thru alot of the threads on here and found this site to be amazing with all the info you guys provide,, so i have another question.. 924runner 3.0.. smelling burning oil,, but oil level is fine and not losing any.. i can see the oil on the passenger side of the motor, right around steering pump, this was a little low, and i filled it back up,, my question is this,, can power steering fluid smell like burnt oil when hot!! i have no huge clouds of white, blue,or black smoke coming out of exhaust and the motor was replaced by toyota in 02, and the heads again redone in 05 @ 150k now truck has 180k on it.. 90k on new factory motor..

If power steering fluid is used and not transmission fluid (as some other Toyota cars do), then it can smell like burning oil. Burning tranny fluid has a distinct smell. Sometimes you can find the black residue on the exhaust pipes where it has fallen or blown back onto them.
I've had some success with Valvoline's MaxLife power steering fluid with Stop Leak in the past, but it is temporary. Seals just get old and brittle.
