Alarm Systems

In the future I will be getting an alarm system. What are you guys using and how is it working for you, also did you install it yourself?:sun:

I currently use the Viper 550 ESP. This has remote start, sensors ranging from the trunk to the hood of the car, optional trunk pop, and a lot of other cool features. This is actually a very very good alarm system. They've come out with the Higher version of it which comes with a little pager to tell you what functions your car is going through (ie-remote start, door opening, car getting broken into..etc etc).

You can get either system from a nearby Circuit City or Best Buy. The Viper 550 ESP is about $350 and 100 bucks installed at CC. The newer model (Viper 960ESP????) goes for another 100 bucks on top of that.

The worst thing you can do is install it yourself. Not only will it leave you open for mistakes and errors, but also voids the warranty of the alarm system. The viper alarm system comes w/a lifetime warranty and some kind of reinbursement if your car is broken into.

The best investment on your baby is an alarm. Also, you can do other things to let people know you're protected...such as a club (it may not work, but it scares ppl off), wheel locks for your rims, hiding valuables under the seat...etc....

what's the down side? does it leave you with every function the nissan system gives you. (ie remote front windows) and does it make a chirp noise to tell you the alarm is active(i hate that)

Yes, it still allows you to use functions given to you by nissan. The only thing disabled is the factory alarm that comes with the car (which is the biggest joke alive). It does make a "chirp chirp" sound, but that could be disabled as well. The Viper system gives you extras such as remote pop trunk from your keychain, remote windows (front and rear) from your remote....remote start is great if you're living in cold weather (or just want to look gangsta.) LoL

there ain't much worth stealing out of my car anyway accept for my cd's. they can take some college textbooks if they want. i don't use the fuckin things

Yeah, thats what my friend said. 2 months later he got his car jacked (honda civic si) and found it ablazed in another state.

honestly, i'd rather them take the car and leave my cd's. i have a 208 disc case full to the brim, some are even doubled up. i could get another maxima but it'd take me forever to get all my cd's back.

yeah, i had about 70 cd's jacked out of my car a couple years ago, took forever to get them all back, since insurance won't cover a damn one, and trust me, that is a lot of money to lose in a case about the size of a trapper keeper

Thats one of the things that sucks about having a stick is that you cant get the remote starter like the automatics. And I wouldnt mind one where I live, going out to your frozen car in the middle of winter is no fun at all.:sun:

Hey i have a 1991 maxima and i'm looking to put a used alarm in it myself. I don't care if it voids the alarm warranty and I'm too broke to pay 100$ to have it installed. Is there anyone who has a wiring diagram or something that will help me in the process of installation? Sorry for being a noob in advance :P

I do this for a living and STRONGLY urge you not to do this yourself. You should be able to find a very good, privately own DEI authorized shop to do the install of a nice alarm much cheaper than the big chains charge. I sell the Viper's sister (Python) which is the same brain for much cheaper installed. I sell the 680xp 2-way alarm all day long for $299 installed. :rofl:

Well i got the alarm free from someone who owed me $$. I live in a pisshole small town and best buy is the cheapest installer here... my buddy installed the exact same alarm in his cavalier by himself with no problems...i guess that means the warranty is voided already...i don't really have anything to lose...except a couple of those plastic door screw covers so what gives...why is this a must-do profesionally type of thing..it is just splicing wires?
Its not exactly brain surgery. I'm not really interested in the alarm, just the keyless entry.

i have a Ratler system. i got it installed for $200 by telling circuit city that best buy would install it for free.(they will match best buy) it is the same company as the vipor. it does everything the vipor does, same waranty, just dont have the vipor name. i like it. also the try ivesting in a Mp3 player. that way u dont have to haul al those CDs around, and a great lady puller. costs from $150 ~ $300. i got a JVC for $200. u can store like 350 song on one CD, plus the name of what u are listening to pops up on the radio. one MP3 cd is like 20 regular CDs. i would advise everyone to get one.

Yes, for the most part you are just splicing wires but you still can screw things up. If you cross wires or just use a testlight to check wires, you can blow your BCM, airbag, or just about anything else. Hopefully you have an older Maxima which isn't too bad for a beginner.

Also, if you want good performance, make sure the alarm that you are using is a nice one. Even if it is free, doesn't mean much. You always get what you pay for.

I 2nd the MP3 idea. That's what I put in all of my vehicles.

hey guys i got a 96 gle max wit the stock alarm and an auto starter on it that was done somwehre ( i bought the car wit hit already) and like it seems that the auto starter is f*ck*ng up the factory alarm is that possable? like its making my ligths blink all of the time, besids that everything else seems to be alright .....

not worried about the airbag considering i don't have one...the only reason i considered doing it myself is the alarm was free (almost) and the car is OLD...i wouldn't even think about it if the car was a 94' etc...
