putting in a new clutch

A lady at work here has i think a '94 Civic and she was wondering if she should go to a honda dealer or to a local shop. I drive a slightly modified '98 and she of course was going to me for help. Don't know why. She was asking me if i knew anything on how to fix it or something. Her clutch is "squishy", i think that's the term she used, and she thinks she needs to get a new one. Is it possible for me to do it manually or should she just take it to a shop that would cost a little more $$$. And for future reference, what should i do to my clutch so it still feels new? I've seen a bunch of different clutch parts being sold but i don't what they are or what they do.

if it feels squishy i think that the clutch fluid level might be low. also check the clutch slave cylinder and see if there are any leaks around it or on any of the lines cause if there is a leak then the pedal tend to feel squishy cause the fluid is just getting pushed out and because of that the clutch won't feel stiff as it usually did. the samething happened to my friends prelude, but before you start looking around check the fluid level.
