the road here was a lil slick tonight,i got on my car and it spun a bit right as it was shifting into 3rd,and it made a pop sound. now its pulling perfectly fine i went back up the road and got on it shifted perfect no noise nothing.im gonna drap the pan this week and change filters and fluid just incase, but is there anything specific i should look for?

when you drop a transmission pan according to the experts on here, you should look for small debris of metal and gunk and crud built up in the fluid or at the bottom of the pan......if you see metal shavings or chunks i would say you have a problem.

if you see pieces with part numbers on them i would say you have a problem . depending on how many miles since the last change you will see some metallic in the fluid i think this is pretty normal within reason of course

I dont think any metalic shavings that you can see in the pan is normal. Your magnet might be covered with a slight layer of "steel" particles, and you might have some dark clutch residue on the bottom of the pan, but I doubt you'll have any metel shavings, and if you do its probably best to get a rebuild done.
Could the Pop you heard have anything to do with the traction controll system?

Also, possibly the ABS braking system. Could be related to ABS modulation since the GTP has the full range traction control system which not only limits power to the front wheels but also applies the respective brake to prevent loss of traction or skidding. The traction off light should turn on/off when this occurs as long as the traction control button is engaged.

i would take a magnet threw the tranny fluid and see how much shavings are in it and like mod said see if it's dark colored fluid. but you will have a little shavings in it because of where and tear.

Good idea, in theory this should work, however, the only shavings that will be attracted to the magnet is ones from the steels from the clutch packs. A magnet will not attract aluminum shavings from a worn case or planitary gearsets, and wont attract brass from worn out thrust bearings/shims.

In my opinion, the trans is setup similar to an industrial hydraulic system...most debris are allowed to settle into a "quiet corner" of the sump where they aren't entrained in the fluid flow and thus pose no additional danger...
....as long as they aren't stirred up. Following this line of thinking one would also avoid a transmission "flush".......

The metal shavings , if any, will just stay in the pan. The screen filter will filter down to at least 60 microns or a little better so there is a little or no chance of the shavings getting sucked up causing any further damage or contamination.
The object to doing a pan drop is to see what may be there as far as possible internal damage so it is still a good idea.

actually the tcs was on,because i was in a hurry to get my phone out of the rain, cause i dropped it on the road:icon16: so what could the traction control system have to do with the pop?

I think the better question what did the pop have to do with the transaxle. How do you know the pop was from it? Was it a pop or some other sound. Try to better describe it. Are you getting the sound anymore?

so i found my problem,i have a cutout fenderwell with a aluminum cover for when it rains,it decided to fly out last night, and apprently got stuck on my exhaust system,so that was the loud clank/pop i heard, and the water got thrown onto the filter making it jerk and stumble.makes me feel so darn stupid :headshake.still glad it wasnt my trans though.
