Sounds like a bad master switch. . . The contacts inside get wet/dirty which will damage them. Is the noise you are hearing a click (relay) or more of a groan (failing motor). I think I would start by finding a local salvage yard and picking up another master switch! It is an easy and cheap fix. You can just pop the old one out, disconnect the wiring harnesses, then reverse instructions to reinstall!

I have the driver side rear passenger window of a 1988 labaron that came loose from the track and is stuck out of its track. Is it very hard to get at the window and its track? couple of screws or a big ordeal?

If it's out of it's track that may mean that the pully cables are broken but not always. It's not an easy job getting to that window. You first have to pull the seat backrest and seats out. Then the plastic panels. some of the hardware may be torx head screws not regular phillips depending on the year. I had a 95 but they were all basically the same. Get yourself a Haynes manual for your car if you want to do the job yourself. They have pretty good pictures and instructions. I'm wondering how it came out of it's track. It might mean that a bracket came loose that allowed it too much play. You might be able to figure it out if you can talk the local dealer into printing off the entire window and frame assembly from the parts manual that they usually keep on microfishe. Together with the Haynes repair manual it should be relatively straight forward. That's how I replaced both of my quarter windows which had to be replaced motor, frame and window as a unit. One had a broken window and the other a bad motor. They were cheap from the salvage yard.
Good luck

Oh, I forgot. Make sure you have a long screwdriver (phillips), a quarter inch socket set with several extensions up to and including a 9 inch, a universal attachment for the set just in case, a good flashlight or light source and a magnetic retrieval tool in case you drop hardware or need to retrieve anything that falls down into that side well. You may not need any or all of those, but I sure did.
