3.4 v 3.5 - Differences?

I used to own a Venture with the 3.4 in it. I had the IMG issue which ended up in a blown head gasket and total top-end rebuild. My wife totaled the van and we now have an Uplander with the 3.5L in it.

Can anyone tell me the differences between the 2 engines? Is the 3.5 simple a rebadged 3.4? It sure looks like the 3.4.

Hopefully GM addressed the IMG issue when they redesigned the engine.

The 3.5 gets better fuel mileage than the 3.4.The 3.5 is in 2005 and up Impalas also.A thinwall 4wd socket for 4x4 trucks can be used for the oil filter socket.My father's friend Rich found this out and it works.

What are you referring to on the oil filter socket? Does this motor have an in-pan oil filter?

The filter for an Uplander with a 3.5 engine is a A C Delco PF47, a standard oil filter. Starting in 2007 the only engine available for the Uplander is a 3.9 (up until then the 3.9 was an optional engine choice.) The 3.9 engine uses a A C Delco PF61. IIRC, the 3.5 is made in 2 locations, Mexico and I believe Canada or US ( someone correct me if I'm wrong :lol: which explains the differences in the ones for the cars, and the other for the light trucks/vans. And the differences in oil filters.

The 3.5 that you are thinking of was only used for a few years and in the Olds Intrigue and Aurora Only.... No other GM's used this engine... It was a 3.5 Twin Cam Shortstar V6 designed from the Northstar..

The 3.5( 3500 ) they are talking about is a 60* Chevy V6 with the PF47 oil filter on the front bank of the block...
