Heated Seat problem

Hi All,

So with winter coming I tried to turn on my heated leather seat on my 00 Monte. But, it didn't work. The passenger seat works great, nothing back or bottom on the driver's side. I checked the fuses-all fine, then I checked and found a relay on the right side, but it was also working fine. What could it be? I found it odd that both the back and bottom aren't working, maybe a loose/broken wire?

I lost both seats in my 02. Tracked the problem to the BCM. Thought about bypassing with a toggle switch but have not had the time.
Yours might be worn out since it is just the driver's. You would need to test the heat elements maybe a continuity test.

I'm sorry this isn't directly related to the seat, but with your BCM bad, do your interior lights come on when you open the door? I have a 2002 SS and my dome lights don't work when I open the door but they do when I turn the switch. My daytime running lights also don't work and I took it to the dealership and they said it was the BCM.

My drivers side seat works fine however there is one spot that gets soo hot that if you touch it with your skin it'll probably burn you. I'm assuming an element is too close to the leather, do you know if that is something you can take the cover off and move?

All of my lights work perfectly. I lost the use of:
· AC (light still comes on when I push the button)
· Cooling fans (Over heated in traffic)
These were diagnosed at the dealership as problems with the PCM
I lost the use of:
· Rear Defroster (light still comes on when I push the button)
· Both heated seats (light still comes on when I push the button)
These were diagnosed at the dealership as either problems with the BCM or something else inside the dash which they said they would have to remove in order to diagnose. I paid $89 for that information.
Your hot spot on your heated seat is probably due to most of the heating coil is not connected to the rest of itself. So you have the electricity passing through a small section of it and that is causing such a high temperature. The dealership mentioned that as the heating coil ages it becomes brittle. I have no idea how serviceable this is. You would have to remove the seat and start disassembling it to see if you can remove the coil pad. With any luck there might be a part number on it that you could use to search for a replacement.

hot spot in heated seat is most likely wire from heating coil starting to break from repeat bending (getting in and out of car, or when bouncing up and down):naughty: the bend in the wire creates high resistance and results in a hot spot until the wire eventually breaks, then no heat. seen it a million times, that's what happens when they try to put toaster elements inside seats:smokin:
