96 Maxima and 98 I30 makes a screaching noise when cold. If you step on the acelerator and give it gas it stays running otherwise it will stall.

Belts and plugs should be good for more than 60k.
The screeching could be caused by a bad pulley. Keep the motor running for a bit, then carefully touch the pulleys. Or you can remove the belts and start the motor. The idler pulley went bad on my Maxima and it got very noisy.

Tow truck companies love ol belts :(
Better to observe plug mfg recommendations www.ngk.com; Belts 5 yrs/60k - and the tightness has to be checked twice a year.
Pulleys last forever and are never changed except when hammered - where on earth this fairy tale came from?
