Scan code for 4th clutch shaft?

Argh my 03 GT with 80K just lost 4th gear. 1 through 3 shift fine but it won't go into 4th.

Based on what I've read it sounds like a bad 4th clutch shaft. I'll bring it in for a scan this week but I was wondering if the trans shop will be able to tell just from the scan?

I did a fluid swap(Not a flush) a year ago, mechanic told me he found no metal shaving inside. Fluid still looks fine.

I read GM started using the hardened teeth in 03 but maybe that's not the case?

The UIM went last month and now this. I'm guessing next will be the LIM.

Its just my personal opinion....but I don't have the experience or facilities to teardown a FWD transmission and reassemble it back to working properly.

However, I feel like I can replace a FWD transmission assembly and have it work perfectly when done. So that's what I'd do...buy a reman transmission with the highest mile warranty I could find and go from there.

80K seems a bit early but it is possible. I've never seen a hardened 4th shaft out of a OE GM tranny

Not necessarily. :grinno:

There are no specific DTCs to indicate the 4th clutch shaft itself is bad or the splines are damaged or stripped. Best to get it scanned with a trans capable scanner/scan tool and go from there.

However, there are certain tranny DTCs like TCC related that will inhibit going into 4th gear and disable shift adapts therefore it is hard to say whether your 4th clutch shaft is bad based on your symptoms. In most cases it will shift to 4th - OD and then drop out back to 3rd or even to neutral and it will feel like you are coasting. Hopefully the scan reveals something to go by.

Thanks for the feedback, I just assumed it was that.

Troy this is where I read that GM started using a hardened 4th shaft.

Under no 4th gear.

Still haven't taken it in for a scan. Will do that soon.

Thanks
