2003 S-10 Starter/hard To Do/give To Pro

OK I have this truck for 3 years no major problems today went to start nothing the dash lit my volts read good,lights,buzzer and all else was good even heard the fuel pump come alive just would not turn over I said to my self must be the starter took a wood hamer handle and hit a couple times thinking to back in the day thats what you did and guess what YES it started right up ok so I'm thinking its the starter after all its probley the orig starter AND IT HAS 111000 MILES ON it so it must need to be replaced OK 2 part question should I see if it will do it again and trust i dont get stuck or is there a chance it may not doit for 10 20 thousand miles or just replace it ....... and how hard is it to do it I'm pretty good with a wrench THANK YOU IN ADVANCE and Have a HAPPY THANKGIVING TO ALL

It is probably living on borrowed time.
Go for a brand new not a rebuilt starter.
If you DIY it remember to unhook your battery negative cable before starting on it.
V6 is a little hard to get starter wires on and off.

Dont let this scare you, but there are some models like my old 93 S10 Blazer that you had to jack up the engine about 3/4 inch to get the starter out. It is very simple to do if you are prepared for it. If you need to do this, all you do is remove the bolt that passes through the motor mount on the side with the starter only and with a 2X4 or some other piece of wood under the engine and a floor (or bottle) jack gently and slowly raise the engine until you have enough room to get the starter out. Then lower and re-install the bolt after the new starter is in.
