On my dash by the stereo is a red light on, it is a anti theft light. It has been staying on. What is it, for the car or the stereo. Don't have a manuel. Thanks

What year Grand AM ??
It is for the radio, though I think it should be flashing, or off.
If you disconnect the battery or remove the radio with out disabling this security feature, it can make the radio inoperable. This requires a dealership to unlock it, if possible. You need to have the 3-4 digit code the previous owner used if any.

The red light is for the antitheft system. Make sure you are using an original key and not a copy. It is possible that the car may shut off on you at some point. If it does you can reset the system by setting the e brake and then turning the key on for 10 minutes and off for 30 seconds repeat three times and on the third time start the car. You may want to have the car checked by the dealer or a mechanic to see what the actual cause may be if the key is an original.

remove the plastic around your steering column, below the key cylinder should be a small connector with I think white and yellow or black and yellow wires make sure it is connected.
