All I want for Christmas is a flashing Check Engine Light....

Well, here we go again .....

On the way to work the CEL started to flash. I went home at lunch and plugged in my code reader.

I got a 0430 which is a high voltage output for the fuel sender (side note: I saw this code a couple of months ago, and my gas tank appears to be getting smaller and smaller).

And 0300 which is a random misfire. Which is common for a leaking intake manifold gasket (which has been replaced 2x; and current one has about 15k on it).

I called up the dealer talked them through my problems, and they said if I have the fuel code it is a free fix due to my warranty, and the misfire, is most like due to the intake manifold gasket, which again is a free fix.

Either way, I'm happy that my shrinking gas tank issue will be fixed next week!

Good thing you have a warranty. I have to pay for/do everything myself. Wonder why yours is eating IMGs though, very weird. I have 108k miles on mine and as far as I know its the original IMGs.

Not sure I would condemn the IMGs though with just the 0300 code, could be caused by other things. If you were getting lean and rich codes with it then I would say its definitely bad.

Your rig must have liked its last stay at the shop...

My cars know not to mess with me. Although, the newest member of the family is testing it's boundaries right now. The 99 Caravan is throwing an EGR code. I'll teach it a lesson it won't soon forget.

Here is the update.

I took it in today. They said that I need a new fuel sending unit, and it is part of the fuel pump, and it is covered under the warranty. We all know the entire pump doesn't need to be replaced but, whatever.... The problem is they don't have any in-stock and there is a national backorder on them.... So they will give me a call when they get them in (kinda scary, because what if the pump was dead... I wait without a car for a couple of weeks?).

The miss fire code they think is due to a loose plug on cylinder #1. They pulled it and there is some carbon on it, and the coil shows that it has had some excessive heat.

They pullled plug #2 and it was loose too.

They are recommending to decarbonized the system (which I told them I run sea foam before every oil change, and they asked me if I burn a lot of oil, no only like a half a quater per 3k), replace the plugs and then see if the code comes back. If it does they want to replace coil #1.

I told them it was fine to replace the plugs (only 32k on them) and decarbonize the system (I would assume their method is more effective then sea foam). And if they need another coil I have a couple I bought off of ebay a couple of years a go I would give them to try, before I would drop money on a new coil.

Something tells me all it needs is the plugs to be tightened and it would be good to go.

Also, they pointed out that I have 10-20% left on a brake pads on the front (no surprise since I have about 90k on them) and they recomend changing that and the roters (due to rust).

Also, they pointed out the hole in my flex tube in the exhaust.

So this spring I'll probably spring for some new brakes....

I picked it up, took it to the gas station and filled it up. Then the CEL went off (due to the sending unit).

I just hit 3k on my oil this week, so I'm planning on picking up some supplies to change the oil this week (which I think is a good idea because I have no idea what they did to "de-carbonized" the engine).

Once the fuel pump comes in I'll be back to have them replace that, on their dime.....
