What, you mean it won't run on one carb? :iceslolan
I actually tried to cast a duplicate out of the second kit I picked up, but my casting skills are just not up to the task at all (the 'other part' I referred to in an earlier post is actually the piece that goes on top of the engine lid, I managed to lose it somehow, but the cast came out well). I ended up being able to salvage the original part with quite a bit of work but it's nowhere near as good as new - suffice it to say that you won't be getting any close ups of that part of the engine bay . . .
Seeing that picture does make me glad I didn't try to paint the kit 'wires' and use them - I just don't think it's possible to paint wire convincingly. You did get the color spot on, though.
I think the badges came out pretty good, though . . . I managed to warp one of them in the process of trimming the excess away, but I kept the molds so I can make some more for the other kit still . . .

Well, I had some good pics of the suspension build, but thanks to an I D ten T error, I lost the files before I could post 'em. So, here's where she stands now - pretty much everything but the body is now done, and it may take me a while to get to it. I've mounted the fender flares and front air dam, and got a test fit on the chassis, the stance is looking good too.
Hopefully I can get some primer down on the body this weekend so I can start the paint and polish fun!

What did you use for the fan air ducts? Can't believe Otaki/Doyusha left those out.

Intake hoses are bare metal wire wound around an aluminum tube, then covered with heat shrink tubing which was partially heated - alu tube was removed, and more heat applied. I wasn't 100% happy with the spacing of the wound wire, but when the body shell is on it won't be nearly as noticeable.
Here's another shot of the cases - these are by Ikea (Detolf, I believe). They have 3 glass shelves apiece from the store, but I had a local welding shop add 4 additional sets of support bars and got some glass cut to fit, so each one has 8 shelves now (including the base).

Thanks for the interest . . . hopefully I can't get some paint on the body sometime in the next year (!??!!) . . . . every time it's warm enough to paint, I can't get to it, and when I have time, it's been freakin' cold!

Nice conversion Jonathan. I added extra shelves to an Ikea wall unit called BERTBY to hold my 1/24ths. It'll hold 140 DVD's or 12 models. I like it because it seals when the door is closed. It was kinda dark so I added halogen track lights in the hallway to illuminate it.
I've thought about converting a DETOLF for some 1/12th's myself but was afraid of dust getting in between the glass panels. How is it?
The BIBY might be cool for some super detailed big Ferraris too. It's made out of steel powder coated in RED!

It is admittedly not dust proof - but it definitely cuts it back. A quick swipe every couple of months with an anti-static dusting brush from Tamiya, and they look great. I'd say they keep 95%+ of the dust out - less if you open it constantly. I've heard somebody say they seal the two gaps on the front door with clear packing tape, and that makes them virtually dust proof - but then you can't open them very easily . . . .

There is some life in the old build yet!! Body needs another primer coat, and we should be ready for paint . . . .

I did get primer down, and started shooting the paint (Zero Jet Black), but I got impatient and went too heavy with it and got some artifacts coming up from the plastic. Guess I need to sand it back, reprime, and repaint (in lighter coats this time)? Though I read where someone just cleared, then reshot the Zero and recleared as well. Any suggestions on the best approach?
Here's the crazing (??) on the hood:

A barrier sealant applied after the primer and before the color will save you headaches like this.

If it were me, I would first try wet sanding it flat with 1500ish paper until the pattern is completely gone and reshoot my basecoat. The flattened basecoat will act as primer. I'd shoot light, flash off, light, flash off, etc. The basecoat surface should be a dull but even finish. Good luck.

Appreciate the advice! I didn't have this issue on my other Zero paint jobs, but I think that was because I had 4 layers of Tamiya primer on those - 2 gray, 2 white because it was a lighter color. With this being black, I just went with 2 coats of gray Tamiya primer, so there wasn't as much between the plastic and the Zero.

Any updates on this model? I have several of these kits and hoping to start building one up in the near future. I loved reading through your progress and viewing the pics you took along the way.

Sorry, sadly, no progress lately - had a number of things tear me away from the hobby for the last 9 months or so, and I'm just starting to get back into the groove of building. I've been working on a 1/20 F1 kit that's been half-started for a while to get back into it, and once that's done I hope to get to the Lambo - it's the furthest along of any of the 10 or so in progress builds, and right now I could really use that kick from finishing a kit!
I will definitely come back and finish out the WIP when I start building again.

Nice build so far any updates ?
I just won a Doyusha 1/12 Lamborghini Countach LP 500S on ebay so I'm interested in your build thread.

Any more progress? I am also going to be starting mine soon. Not sure if it has been mentioned, but this LP500S version is the "Walter Wolf" special. Wolf did have the 5 litre engine installed in his cars, hence the 500, which is a bit different from the factory LP500s...I have an Entek (Otaki) LP400 and the Testors LP500S versions, and plan on building the LP400 first...essentially the same kit with different wheels/tires and the added body flares/spoilers. I plan on building it like this one...

I'm flattered by the interest expressed in this build - sadly, I haven't done anything else with it (apart from procuring a third copy of the kit, this one in a partially built condition, to provide spare parts). The body from this build is still sitting in a giant plastic container with alcohol in it. It's a bit too cold to paint here lately, so maybe I'll use my hobby time to get the rest of this one fully stripped and ready to respray. I do know it's a pain in the butt to keep the bare chassis dust free!!

Could you tell me which scale size set of PE parts you bought for it? I am also considering using some PE parts wherever I can for this one...
taliesen

PE sheet is Acu-Stion 1/12 - I had a link to it in post #9, but it seems to no longer be available at Media Mix. It's not really a full PE set, just emblems - I want to say it was about $40 USD or so, and all I'm using is the hood emblem, 5 emblems for the wheels and steering wheel, and the 3 script pieces for the rear deck. Nothing else really works for this kit, so it may not be very cost effective to grab it.
Also, I did discuss some of the differences between this kit and a real 500S in the first post - agree this is definitely a WW special.

Shoot. I couldn't find the 1/12 scale ones either. I'm basically looking for the items that that set includes. I was just clearing up the WW 500S vs Factory 500S for anyone wondering about the naming in more detail. Apparently the factory didn't trust the original 5 litre prototype version of the engine and thus changed it to 4 litres. Wolf convinced them to put the 5 litre engine in his cars, which supposedly held up just fine... ;)

This is my all time favorite car. I have one in 1/24th scale, but it is nothing against this one. Great work and nice detail. Can't wait to see more.

Hi Jonathan,
I'm in the middle of restoring my Testor's LP500S. It didn't survive the divorce intact. I need 3 parts to finish it.
G-20, the left rear grill
O-1, left and right side marker lights
Anyway we can work out some kind of a deal if you have the extra parts?
Thanks,
Gary

I will need to dig out the 'junk' kit box I grabbed for spares and take a look, but won't be able to do that til this weekend. I'll PM you and let you know if I have them to spare.
