Has anyone ever painted flocking? Is it possible to? My LHS doesn't carry the right colour and I don't want to order some. I have some in dark blue and I want to paint it Red.

I paint white and light gray flocking all the time with an airbrush and really heavily thinned acrylic paints, using VERY light coats. I don't think you'll be able to get RED out of a blue flocking, but a nice purple. I may be wrong depending on how dark a blue the flocking is.

You're not going to be able to turn dark blue into red.

Thanks. There is some light blue flocking at my LHS that I could paint Red.

I only buy white, tan, or light gray just so I can spray paint it. Just use light coats like RSXSE240 said. Heavy coats will make it look like mud. Don''t even think about brush painting it though, there is not enough control :headshake .

Here is a very old build of mine with painted flocking. I started out with light gray flocking, and went step by step with darker colored paints.

I'd look for white or light grey, like was mentioned before. Its very possible, that even w/ a light blue, your more likely to get a light purple, versus red, by painting it.

Thanks guys! I have some light blue flocking now(my Hobby store only sells shades of blue for some reason), and I'll try painting it sometime. :)

Given the fact that a tube of flocking is just $2-3, I think it is a big waste of time (and paint) trying to paint it. Order some online if your LHS doesn't carry it.
