I have a 94 Honda Civic LX and got new brakes installed about 3 months ago, and about 600 miles later...the brakes are still squeaking. Someone had told me that the reason my brakes are squeaking are because they're fairly new. Ahem...I've been driving my car for about 600 miles after they were "new" and they're still squeaking. When I drive my car to go somewhere (grocery shopping, etc.) the brakes squeak for about 5-10 minutes upon driving it, that is, when I step on the brakes to stop only. And after about 10 minutes of driving the car...the brakes no longer squeak. This has been happening for quite some time. Does anyone know the reason for this? It's embarassing....people are always looking at me when I hit a stop sign. Thanks guys.

Get a brake service done at a reputable shop. Normally, squealing happening after ALL NEW parts are put in is due to a combination of dirty brake parts(lazy mechanics not cleaning, or dont know they have to clean) and lack of lube(anti-seize/graphite/silicone) between moving parts. Also, if you put new pads on used rotor, that could cause problems as well. But, i would recommend you take it in for a brake inspection if anything serious should be the diagnosis.

who did your brakes? did they resurface the rotors? if the rotors are glazed it will cause noise or the noise is happening because there is vibrations they shouls have put a stop squeal on the back of the pads---sounds like they didnt
