98 Metro won't start

Hello

Need some help with my 98 Geo Metro. Currently my Geo won't start. I have spark and fuel flow. So far, have replaced distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires. Still no start.

Engine cranks but it feels like it is missing something to get it started. Car has just developed this problem. Sometimes it will start after a few hours or even a few days. But the other day, while driving, stopped for a light and the car died. Same problem as it won't start.

Currently thinking it may be my distributor - car has 130,000 miles - am not sure as it may also be the fuel pump acting up. Am thinking about changing both to see if this would solve the problem but not sure. Mind you, this is my first problem with the car since I had it - now 11 years - and willing to invest in repairs as still getting 40 miles per gallon.

Would be grateful for any ideas and input on my problem. Thanks.

Does the check engine light come on?

Sorry for the delay. Engine light is not on.

Is your metro a 3 or 4 cylinder?
Transmission?
mileage?

Start with the simple things. You don't want to throw money at it.
Are your spark plugs clean and working properly? Make sure they are not fouled.
Are the plug wires in good shape? Have someone crank it in the dark (If darkness is available) and watch for arcing.
Do you have sufficient fuel pressure?
How is your cylinder compression?
Timing?

If you had the car since new (or almost new) I would have to say that you need to do the simple checks like doug mentioned. Especially the compression test. Maybe the timing belt gave way?

Thanks for your input. Had Thanksgiving weekend off and got together with my neighbor. Took your advice and started with the small stuff

1. Checked the spark plugs and wire and were in excellent condition.
2. Checked the distributor and found getting spark.
3. Took off the oil cap and cranked the engine and found the cam to turn so timing belt was working fine.
4. Did a compression check and found had good pressure to all 3 cycliners - range was from 180-185.
5. Checked all fuses and no problems
6. Turned the ignition key and found the fuel pump to be working.
7. Checked for fuel flow and found fuel was going to carb without problem.
8. Checked the fuel injector and found that was the problem.

Went on the internet and ordered a fuel injector and will have it within a week.
