95 Cutlass Supreme Runs Hot

Well i picked this car up as a beater car to go to and from work. The main problem I noticed is that the temp gauge is always jumping up and down. It goes all the way to hot in the red, then it will fall back down to say the middle range then climb back up to high again and it keeps repeating this process. I had the thermostat and a hose replaced and it still does it. I dont know if it could be an engine coolant temp sensor or if its an actual headgasket problem. Im not really even sure where to begin with this car since im not familiar with them at all. Anyone ever have a problme like this? Its a 3.1 Cutlass Supreme.

Does it loose any coolant,? I would do a scan and look at the actual temp ranges first.

nope, it doesnt lose any coolant from what ive seen. the temp gauge acts too weird for it to me a problem with a head gasket or water pump.
