I assume you have an automatic. If it's manual, you'll probably need to change the clutch. If it's automatic, it sounds expensive.

This one seems simple enough. You'll probably need to change the timing belt and water pump. On my 2.6L the water pump doesn't run off the timing belt, but you still have to remove it to get the water pump off. Most cars the water pump runs off of the timing belt. Anyways, if you need to take it off, you might as well replace it. Just don't get a water pump from Autozone, etc. This is one case where you don't want to go cheap. I got mine from Autozone and it doesn't appear to be working very well. At least it's not leaking anymore. Also, it wouldn't hurt to change the fan clutch.

Overheating when stuck in traffic sounds like a clogged radiator, bad fan clutch, or aftermarket thermostat...Use ONLY OEM Isuzu thermostat, do NOT use anything else. They do not work properly in these engines.
Everytime you overheat that engine you are overheating the transmission. These GM 4L30 auto tranny's do NOT handle overheat conditions....at all.
Sounds like you are low on ATF fluid to me, as well as the torque convertor is slipping.
Do NOT be driving it until you get the cooling system issue resolved, and then do a partial ATF fluid swap too. You have probably already cooked the ATF fluid in the tranny by overheating the engine, the two are connected, cooled by the same radiator.
You never stated what year of truck, engine, or how many miles.
If it's 7+yrs of age, the original radiator is probably shot, along with waterpump could be going.
How many service intervals have been performed on your tranny?
Also have you ever flushed your tranny?.......DON'T
Post back so we can further assist you....we need to know what engine.
