ok i was walking to my car and i pushed unlock on the remote. then i opened the door and heard a clicking noise. so i ignored it and tried starting the car and NOTHING. the interior lights do not come on nor do any other lights. and when i turn the car on none of the dash lights turnon either. so do i have a dead bcm?

oh and i should add that if i leave the door open the BCM just keeps clicking away. so whenever i try turning on the lights or unlocking a door the bcm click click click click click. its a 99 grand am gt.

well i went and got another bcm from a junk car. i put it in and when i opened the door the lights came on and whatnot. then i turned the key to start and everything shut off. so i waited then tried a couple minutes later and the security light started flashing. so i let it sit for 15 minutes and the light went out and it did that again. so i let it sit again and now the car turns over but wont start. seems like its not getting gas, but i still hear the fuel pump humming. so i think i have to do the security relearn thing. yay.

lol You cant just swap out the BCM as it contains part if not all of your pass lock info and it will not start!

Sounds like your battery is dead. Have you tested it for voltage ??
Should be at least 12.5vlts up to 13vlts. Make sure your connections are clean and tight too.

And are you sure it was the BCM clicking ?
Thiers nothing inside to make a click noise, only that damn ding ding.
Usualy when a BCM is bad you get the permenant SVS light on and everything else will work, usualy.

I know the one in my GT was blown because it showed a trouble code, p1610 or something close. Which is cummunications error from BCM. Mine happend due to leaking sunroof drains, rain came down the pillars and right over the fuse boxes.
Was a simple fix, just the reprograming of the BCM took some effort(and some help from BNaylor).

Good Luck

yes it was the bcm clicking because i put my ear right next to it and heard it clicking. when i took the bad one out i opened it up and found that one of the little resistors on it was fried. haha it was all black and it crumbled right off the circuit board. yeah my battery is brand new only about a month old and its charged. i tried starting this morning and it started for second or two and stalled out. so now i know its my security thing thats giving me problems. so does this mean i have to go to the GM dealer and have them program it or something? please help i need my junk working haha.

You might be able to repair your orginal BCM. Look at the one you just got and look at the location where the component was burned on the old one. Go to radio shack and pick up a new resistor. Solder the new resistor in and see if that fixes the old BCM. It is worth a try. Will be less than what the dealership will charge to reprogram the BCM.

well somehow i relearned the security code. i did that thing with the 10 minute wait 3X. then on the fourth try i turned the key and wam the car started. i am very relieved now that i got it working. thanks for all the suggestions.
