Starter? 95 Monte Carlo LS

I have a 1995 Monte Carlo LS that I think the starter has gone out on. The symptoms started with there were some times when I would turn the key in the ignition and nothing- no crank, etc., but the dash lights would come on. I would take the key out start it again and it would fire right up. Then the start sort of started 'dragging' if you will. When it was cold, it would start fine. But if I were to go in to the store, then come back out and try to start it, it would 'drag' when it was warm.

I went home on my break yesterday and it wouldn't start- wouldn't turn over, nothing. Just turn the key and nothing. But again the dash lights and radio came on.

My mechanic thinks it's the starter. Any thoughts?!

Thanks!!!

with the head lights on and you attempt start no lights dim this usually means the starter.....it could be simply the connections to the starter but when on the lift it will be easy to determine...

most repair shops will still replace the starter ,,,even if it is a loose wire...they make a good mark up on the starter...stater should go for 125.00 the most...he may want 250.oo for the starter..then labor is added...

you will probably not give us the details after it is fixed but this is how the forums become useful to those like you in need of assistance..

OMG! Did/do I ever have the same problem. This same thing happened to me last year. So I had the starter replaced. Then again it happened to me (both in winter). I took it to a shop and I thought it was just the connection between the starter and battery had frozen. Well turns out it has to do with that stupid little chip on the key. I was told the entire ingition had to be replaced and new keys made. I still have yet to do this so I can't help you to see if that was the problem. But it is something worth looking into!
