so my check engine light comes on, and i stop at the local auto zone to get a scan. they scan it and tell me that it's reading BOTH oxygen sensors are out. that doesnt seem quite right to me. how can both go out at the same time ? is there a sensor that monitors the sensors that could have went out ? is it possibly something else that was mis-scanned ? another problem i'm having is when i start up the truck, it idles way down right on start up, then comes back up to power. it's been doing that for about a week now. any thoughts ?

Do you know specifically which code Autozone read? It should be in the form P0123. If you can get the exact code and post it here, we'll be able to give you better detail than what Autozone has so far.

If was both oxygen sensors or all 4 of them, you would lose power.Bank one, sensor 1 and sensor 2 are on the passenger side of the exhaust. This is way Ford does it,backwards instead of on the left side of the exhaust.

here are the codes i got from autozone's scanner

po171
po174

autozones troubleshooter says it could be low fuel pressure or the mass air flow sensor. i cleaned the maf about a year ago, so i guess it's probably about due for another cleaning.
with the engine running, i looked and listened under the hood. it seemed like i could hear some air either leaking or sucking, so maybe i have a vaccum leak ? it was dark and i didnt have alot of time to investigate, but what is the most likely culprit if there is a vaccum leak ?

Ahhh, very common codes with a common solution. The info's been posted numerous times. Try searching the forum for the codes you posted, but they're actually P0171 and P0174 (it's a zero rather than on 'o').
