I had a similar problem recently, in my 99 Ram 318. Couldn't get the engine to operating temp and had almost no heat(small amounts under load). My problem ended up being the water pump(also switched to a 195 t stat)which was just barely leaking from the weep hole. Not sure if this is your problem, but how high does your engine temp get? You might want to try a 195 t stat from the dealer. I went through three new t stats before finding one that now seems to work properly. Good luck.
