2001 CD Player Problems

My daughter is having problems with her cd player. When she puts a cd in, it will try to read it, then it pops the cd out and says "check cd". Is the player shot?

If it is getting cold out side where she lives, then it could just be fog or a dirty disc.
Warm disc + cold stereo= fogg.
I had this happen the other night actualy in my GA. It just kept poping the disc out untill the car warmed up then it worked fine.
